A flexible immigration policy
The points based system.
This is a period of intense change as the existing immigration system is overhauled and a new points based system, similar to the one currently used in Australia is rolled out. It is envisaged that the new system will be highly regulated to make for a ‘joined up thinking’ approach to immigration across Government departments.
It ascertains that for an application to be approved a certain number of points must be required. Points are linked to qualifications, job prospects, earnings and a language requirement. Applications are made from the country of origin.
In the new points based system there will be 5 tiers which will categorise migrants:
Tier 1: Highly skilled migrants
Tier 2: Skilled migrants
Tier 3: Low-skilled migrants
Tier 4: Students
Tier 5: Youth mobility and visiting workers
