The regular input of REC members is a key element in the REC's work to influence public policy on both a national and European level. Member involvement is the lifeblood of the REC's lobbying activities and the work of the External Relations team provides opportunities for recruitment professionals to make a real difference. Some of the mechanisms in place to continue enhancing and facilitating member input include:
• Become a Recruitment Champion
• Member forums and committees such as the Employment Policy Committee, the REC Diversity Forum and the Professional Standards Committee.
• Online working groups focusing on specific policy issues. Our online working Groups were established last year to focus on the impact of the EAA regulations and on the new Gangmasters Licensing Act. Click on any of the following groups to register your interest:
• REC Sector Groups are a further opportunity for members to have direct input into specific REC lobbying campaigns.
• All members are invited to have input into Government consultations.
• Members are invited to play a direct lobbying role by writing to Government departments and by contacting local MPs and MEPs.
• Lobbying on a local level is an increasingly effective way of getting our points across. The REC's new regional structure is further accelerating this trend.
As well as driving forward REC’s lobbying campaigns through regular involvement in our policy work, REC members play a decisive and on-going role through the manner in which they conduct their day-to-day business activities. By observing the REC Code of Professional Practice, members are gradually changing some of the negative pre-conceptions that still exist about the recruitment industry. As the image and reputation of the industry continues to evolve, the perceived need for more regulation will diminish and the REC's political influence will continue to grow.
